Comment on Pontiac of the Day - November 20, 2008. by Time Traveler http://tjs-labs.com/blog/2008/11/20/pontiac-of-the-day-november-20-2008/#comment-110 Time Traveler Thu, 20 Nov 2008 22:45:25 +0000 http://tjs-labs.com/blog/2008/11/20/pontiac-of-the-day-november-20-2008/#comment-110 I like some of these old ad illustrations on Retro Press so much I use them as desktop backgrounds on my PC (after cropping out the ad copy). I'll do that with this one. Hope that doesn't burn anyone's copyright buns. As for why ... well, there's no accounting for taste, is there?* On a different note, anyone else notice the driver looks a tad small? Using him for scale, it looks like four adults could comfortably fit abreast in the front seat, five with some squeezing. Although those 50's cars were BIG, the truth would be about one body less than that. Since the perspective elsewhere looks fine, could it be the artist did that intentionally, to make the thing appear even bigger inside? * My dad worked at a Pontiac dealership in the 50's; maybe that has something to do with it. Comment on Tank-Eating Tiger of the Day - November 11, 2008. by Time Traveler http://tjs-labs.com/blog/2008/11/11/tank-eating-tiger-of-the-day-november-11-2008/#comment-108 Time Traveler Fri, 14 Nov 2008 21:45:49 +0000 http://tjs-labs.com/blog/2008/11/11/tank-eating-tiger-of-the-day-november-11-2008/#comment-108 Ironically, it was the Germans, not the Americans, that had a tank named Tiger. It ate Allied tanks for breakfast. A one-on-one between a Tiger and the common American Sherman would have meant more gold stars in the windows back in the States. It took several Shermans ganging up to take out a Tiger. The German Panzer tanks referred to in the ad were no slouches, either, to put it mildly. You're trying to make me think of Esso, aren't you? Confess! (Esso, now Exxon, had a long-running ad slogan, "Put a tiger in your tank!" Gas tank, that is. But I didn't need to explain that, did I. Oh, never mind.) OK, Retro Press, this is a set-up, right? You’re trying to make me think of Esso, aren’t you? Confess!

I loved my grandmother's made-from-scratch pumpkin pies. My wife loves pumpkin, too, even the crappy "pies" they usually have at McDonald's every October and November. But I never heard of pumpkin cake, so I guess it didn't catch on. Sounds like a keeper to me, though. Sounds yummy. I loved my grandmother’s made-from-scratch pumpkin pies.
